Flood Forecasting with Merged Satellite Precipitation and Hydrologic Model

چکیده
Flood forecasting has been an effective way to reduce the potential flood hazards for a sustainable socio-economy. However, lack of in-situ precipitation records limited applicability with hydrologic models in poorly gauged basins. To address this problem, we aim develop framework based on merged satellite and model. The was then applied small basin upper Lequan River Basin, Hainan, China experiments. Results indicate that combination model can generally well reproduce past major events occurred basin. Our approaches are expected provide new insights into basins be used support development

Flash flood forecasting for ungauged locations with NEXRAD precipitation data, threshold frequencies, and a distributed hydrologic model
A flash flood forecasting system has been developed which combines distributed modeling and statistical analyses to produce gridded forecasts of return periods. A distributed hydrologic model (DHM) coupled to a threshold frequency (TF) post-processor, DHM-TF, is currently being tested over a Maryland-centered domain, and has verified well against National Weather Service (NWS) flash flood warni...

This study compares mean areal precipitation (MAP) estimates derived from three sources: an operational rain gauge network (MAPG), a radar/gauge multisensor product (MAPX), and the Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks (PERSIANN) satellitebased system (MAPS) for the time period from March 2000 to November 2003. The study area includes seven o...
متن کاملFlood Forecasting and Inundation Mapping Using HiResFlood-UCI and Near-Real-Time Satellite Precipitation Data: The 2008 Iowa Flood
Floods are among the most devastating natural hazards in society. Flood forecasting is crucially important in order to provide warnings in time to protect people and properties from such disasters. This research applied the high-resolution coupled hydrologic–hydraulic model from the University of California, Irvine, named HiResFlood-UCI, to simulate the historical 2008 Iowa flood. HiResFlood-UC...
متن کاملFlood Forecasting System Using Weather Radar and a Distributed Hydrologic Model
The nature is composed of infinite process, and each process is surely deterministic (out of mention for the micro process on the level of quantum physics, which is under the uncertainty principle of Heisenberg, 1927), but affected by uncountable number of factors. What we are trying to do with modeling is to find the most dominating factors on a process and to simplify the process with an unde...
متن کاملEvaluation of Global Flood Detection Using Satellite-Based Rainfall and a Hydrologic Model
A new version of a real-time global flood monitoring system (GFMS) driven by Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) rainfall has been developed and implemented using a physically based hydrologic model. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of this new version of the GFMS in terms of flood event detection against flood event ar...
